Therapeutic Education is about Connection:
Connecting with one's physical body, emotions and thoughts.
Connecting with a world of ideas, capacities, and practices.
Connecting with a community of others.
Connecting with what is childlike in each of us.
This is embodied learning.
A neuro-developmental approach begins with the individual, considering the whole child when evaluating relative strengths and weaknesses in the context of overall development. Difficulties with learning or behavior are seen in the context of a full and healthy life biography and the potential gifts each human being brings to the world.
Supporting your child through:
For parents: There are many different ways of understanding a child, but often they are predicated on making a good "fit" with a particular learning environment. There are also a wide variety of therapeutic services out there to choose from when seeking help. Through a consultation and a review of existing evaluations, I can help you find the right fit rather than focusing only on how the child must change to fit in. I can offer suggestions for therapeutic interventions that will strengthen your child and help them fully integrate with the learning environment they are in.
For schools and childcare centers: I offer a fresh perspective with a firm foundation in child development. This can help teachers to better understand children exhibiting difficult behavior or learning challenges, and guide them in formulating compassionate and successful interventions. I begin with classroom observations and meeting directly with teachers so that the solutions developed remain concrete and effective.
David is a lifelong teacher, trained as a Transdisciplinary Therapeutic Educator and Waldorf Remedial Specialist. He has more than 35 years of experience working with children and families. He uses a neurodevelopmental approach that includes movement, direct instruction, and coaching, emphasizing the connections between physical and emotional development and academic success. This enables students to find and build capacities and frameworks that support learning. Rather than approach learning from a particular program, he begins with the student, helping to build self awareness and agency while helping them discover strategies that build on their inherent strengths. David is familiar with a range of learning challenges and their fit with different learning environments. He works with students from 3 years old to adults.
