Neurodevelopmental Movement:
These are movement-based “lessons” individually tailored to a student’s needs. They draw upon exercises and techniques from the Waldorf “Extra Lesson," “Awareness Through the Body," reflexive movement integration programs, sensory-motor integration, and other modalities. There may be direct coaching to build self-awareness, coordination, and confidence. These “lessons” work best when given twice/week for 6 weeks, or twelve sessions. Each session takes about an hour. The fee for each “block” of sessions includes an initial meeting with parents, a brief written report, and a final meeting. Once the 12 sessions are completed, students may sign up for regular or periodic “tune-ups” but can be shorter than an hour and pro-rated.
Direct Instruction in Literacy and Numeracy:
Some children have difficulty learning from traditional classroom instruction and need support at the level of the building blocks of literacy and numeracy. I provide instruction to strengthen understanding of these foundational abilities. My experience with various learning challenges and instruction methods allows me to align instruction with different cognitive profiles.
Academic and Executive Coaching:
This usually follows a strength and weakness assessment, but can be helpful for all students. It is collaborative in nature, working together to build executive skills, understand the benefits and challenges of a particular learning profile, and take ownership of academic and life choices.
Fees for all services are based on an hourly rate of $85.
Assessments and screenings provide an objective picture of your child’s learning. They do not provide a diagnosis, but may point to the need for further evaluation in a specific field.
All assessments include evaluation of the student, a written report and a meeting with parents. Meetings with other educational professionals are available at an additional cost. Assessments can be combined to fit your child's needs.
Extra Lesson Assessment:
This is a comprehensive neurodevelopmental evaluation. It is not standardized, but looks at educational skills and capacities in connection with overall sensory-motor development. It is geared toward the six- to fifteen-year-old student.
Early Literacy:
Screening for difficulties with the foundations of literacy, such as phonemic awareness, naming speed, decoding and encoding phonics and orthographic mapping.
Early Numeracy:
Screening for number sense, 1:1 correspondence, estimating, mathematical reasoning, and symbolic number relationships.
Reading and Calculation Skills Screenings:
An informal assessment of fluency and skills.
Screening for Processing Disorders:
Uses a standardized metric (DSTP) for assessing auditory and linguistic difficulties.
Processing Strength and Weakness Assessment (CAS2):
This standardized evaluation looks at four areas: Planning, Attention, and Sequential and Simultaneous processing. It helps identify strengths and weaknesses as well as overall cognitive functioning.
Parents sometimes are faced with a confusing array of professional evaluations. I will review existing reports and help prioritize their findings, coaching parents on strategies for implementing recommendations, and suggesting further evaluation if necessary. A full review consists of an initial meeting, consideration of existing reports, and a follow-up meeting.
This may involve school observations, meetings with teachers and school personnel, and direct guidance for students and families. The goal is to build understanding and trust between school and home environments, while helping each to provide the support needed.
For Parents:
When your child is struggling with school, learning, or friendships, the number and gravity of educational decisions can be overwhelming. It can be hard to find professionals who will take your concerns seriously and offer unbiased suggestions. Often it is essential to involve the student in difficult conversations as well. With years of experience helping students find the right educational fit, as well as exploring the positive aspects of any particular neurological profile, I will work with you, and your student if appropriate, to help chart an individual course through the many educational offerings.
For Schools and Childcare Centers:
When you have students who you find difficult to understand, or classroom dynamics that are unproductive for you and the students, it can be so helpful to have outside observation and a child-development perspective. Collaborative problem-solving can breathe fresh air into such situations and provide a new way of looking at both the child and the situation. Ideally such consultations would include time for observation and conversations with teachers over a period time to try out new solutions and tailor them to the individual situation. I am available for half and full day consultations as well as for specific classes.
Consultation with parents and teachers is billed at $85./Hr. for meetings beyond those included above. Consulting with institutions will be arranged on an hourly or per diem rate.
